Remember when Sony was cutting back on the PS3 to make it smaller and more affordable. For $300 you're getting a great entertainment center but what sucked is that the first thing to go was the PS2 backwards compatibility. So if you want to play your PS2 games you must either own a PS2 or a PS3 with the Emotion engine.
However that is no longer the case. A patent release shows that Sony is actually working on an add-on that will allow the PS3 to play the full library of the PS2. If Sony is working on an Add-on then it must be a lot cheaper than reinstating the Emotion engine back into the PS3 which I'm sure it wouldn't cost no more that $40 when and if it's released.
