Arawaka: Under The bridge Vol 2.

Rec and Nino are back and funnier than ever.

Arawaka: Under the Bridge wasn’t one of my favorite Anime selections but it was somewhat entertaining and I was able to watch it without having to gauge my eyes out like other Anime’s. Arawaka Vol 2 brings a close to the series (I think) and this collection is probably one of the best Anime’s I’ve seen. Vol. 2 beats out Vol. 1 by a long shot.

Arawaka: Under the bridge was one of the first offerings from NIS America to bring a combo pack of BluRay and DVD. That hasn’t changed this time around. You still get 2 BluRay and DVD disc and an artbook describing each episode as well as showing some nice art.

Arawaka 2

Arawaka: Under the bridge tells the story of a community living by the river that crosses a bridge. Each individual character is really out of this world crazy but somehow they all manage to live together by the river. The main focus of the story is the relationship between Rec and Nino who we met in Vol. 1 and are proclaimed lovers because Nino saved Rec’s life.

Vol. 2 is truly out of this world when it comes to comedy than the previous collection. Throughout all the episodes I was laughing all the time including the really boring or annoying episodes (which there are about 3 but it always gets better). My favorite gags are when Rec, Hoshi and Last Samurai are seemed as very homosexual and very girly like when they are told something. They even go as far as to claim that they have Beaver Fever and prance around like middle school girls.

There are also other funny jokes like Whitey needing his white powder in order to win the race, Rec meeting Nino’s parents in his head as tentacle monsters similar to Squidbillies, etc.

What I didn’t like about Vol. 2 though is that the story isn’t expanded between Rec and Nino. We do learn a bit about other characters backgrounds like Billy and Jaqueline’s past as a Yakuza ganster and Jacqueline as the Yakuza Boss’s woman whom Billy stole from the boss. Besides that there is not really much character development and we almost never get to see where Rec and Nino’s relationship go.

Arawaka 1

Vol. 1 ended with a preview of Vol.2. Vol. 2 just ends. You don’t really get to know what happens next. Are there more episodes to come? Did Nino see her parents? Nothing gets answered in the end. It just ends. Besides that there’s really nothing more to say.

Closing Comments:

Despite a weak story and ending on nothing, I really enjoyed Arawaka vol. 2. The comedy routine is golden and you will be laughing non stop. Even if you haven’t seen Vol. 1 I still recommend you pick up Vol. 2 even by itself. It’s enjoyable, the characters are more likeable and most of all it’s right down hilarious.
