Nintendo has filed for a patent for a touchpad accessory that attaches itself to the Wii-Mote. The touchpad can be used for many things and it's used on many devices including smartphones and such. Besides the touchpad and a few details on how it works there are no details on what it can be used for. There are some games that may be perfect for the touchpad but lack on Software updates on the Wii consoles would leave any potential games in the dark.
However few people thing that this is not an add on for the Wii seeing as the Wii is on life support right now but rather it's an accessory for the Wii-U which is coming is 2012. I think that it can work both ways seeing as how the Wii-U might be compatible with Wii-Motes as shows on the Wii-U video back on E3.
It could also be the new redesign Wii-U controller as not a lot of people seemed too happy with an iPad like controller that could cost upwards of $200 if broken by accident. For right now we just have to wait and see what Nintendo has up their sleeves but I'm not holding my breath for anything Nintendo anymore.
