Peta says it was just a joke.
I personally hate hypocrites and the biggest hypocrites in the world is an organization known as PETA. PETA went on to say that the new Mario game was advertising that it's OK to wear Fur. Nintendo however didn't take this one sitting down and decided to release a statement on what PETA has said.
“Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games.”
“These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play. The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves.”
With that being said PETA is now saying that it wasn't attacking Mario but instead it was just using the game as a way to bring light into an even darker matter.
"Mario fans: Relax! PETA's game was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur," a PETA spokesperson said in an email to PCMag. "We wish real-life tanukis could fly or swat enemies away with their tails and escape those who profit from their skins. You can help them by never buying real fur."
"When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy–even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers," PETA said on the site. "Tanooki may just be a 'suit' in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."
I don't like nor hate PETA and I do agree with some of their statements but at times they can use some really shady tactics and are known to be involved with some terrorist groups made out of tree hugging idiots.
I guess PETA and all those groups don't believe in free will.
