We're ready for a sequel to Shenmue, but it all lies in Sega's hands.
Shenmue which debuted on the Dreamcast in 2000 and later Shenmue 2 which was an Xbox exclusive told the story of Ryo Hazuki avenging his fathers death. Shenmue was a huge game and had a great story but sales of Shenmue 2 were disappointing in the US that Sega stopped producing the game all together.
President of Sega West Mike Hayes has expressed his need for a new Shenmue game even going as far as saying never say never.
"While at present we have no plans for the franchise [on next-gen consoles]...the Shenmue legacy ignites a lot of passion among fans. Never say never,"
There was even this one petition that managed to get 64000 signatures to bring Shenmue back and Sega is practically tight lipped when talking about the series coming back so it seems that there may be a ray of hope for the series but until then nothing is set in stone.
