Tony Hawk Returning via DLC

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD Announcend.

Last time we saw Tony Hawk was in Shred and Ride. Bother were a commercial failure as there were problems from the start and Activision didn't bother setting up some sort of marketing for Shred, the game was doomed from the start.

Today Activision is bringing back Tony Hawk but not in a ground breaking new game but instead as an HD version. Popularized by the God of War Collection that brought GoW 1 and 2 on a single disc in HD, it sounds like everyone is jumping on this bandwagon and bringing old classics from several years ago back in HD.

“We’re going back to the core of what made the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games so popular, while leveraging today’s console power and online capabilities,” said Tony Hawk. “We've updated many elements to reflect today’s skateboarding scene as well. Long-time fans of the series will appreciate the huge amount of polished content at a very low price."

Not all skaters are back for this remake. Some have been replaced by others. The line up for this game includes: Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Rodney Mullen, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins (Pastrana), Riley Hawk, and, Tony Hawk himself.

Some of the Skaters missing from the first are: Chad Muska, Bob Burnquist, Campbell, Lasek, Rowley, Steamer and Thomas. This was probably due to licensing issues of some sort, or they probably weren't called back for the remake.

This is what Activision had to say about the announcement:

“Tony is not only a legend in the skateboarding world, he’s an American icon that has had a major impact on videogames. We couldn’t be happier to be working with him again,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD just feels right – we’re simply giving fans what they’ve been clamoring for.”

THPS HD will be available on PSN and Xbox Live for $15. Release Date details have yet to be released.
