Neflix raises prices for it's DVD services

Netflix will now consider 2 plans for $16 rather than 1 for $10.

Netflix is very popular amongst gamers and millions of other people. For every job I've had in the game industry Netflix always came up at least once a day in a conversation between coworkers. Why is Netflix so popular? for $9.99 or $11.99 with  blu-ray, you can stream videos from your device as well as receive DVD's in the mail. It's a great deal and everyone loves it.

However now Netflix has raised their prices or rather split their plans into 2 separate services. You can have Unlimited Streaming for $7.99 or Unlimited movie rentals for $7.99 or both for $15.98. If you want Blu-Ray thrown in it will cost you $17.98 or $20 with taxes and such.

"Given the long life we think DVDs by mail will have, treating DVDs as a $2 add-on to our unlimited streaming plan neither makes great financial sense nor satisfies people who just want DVDs," Netflix wrote on its blog. "Creating an unlimited-DVDs-by-mail plan (no streaming) at our lowest price ever, $7.99, does make sense and will ensure a long life for our DVDs-by-mail offering."

If I want to keep both plans I will need to pay $20 a month which is still great but I do have satellite services with on demand but I still like to rent Blu-Ray movies every now and then and the price point was great. With their service price changing on September 1 for current customers, I may consider canceling my subscription but I may keep the streaming only and check out BlockBuster's rental service which for $11.99 you get DVD's, Blu-Ray and Video Game Rentals (1 out at a time) and 5 In store exchanges which makes more sense for me when I don't want to rent a movie. On top of that you can get all the newest releases the day they come out with no waiting.

Comment if you have an opinion about Netflix's new pricing plan which have already gone into effect for new customers and will go into effect for current customers on September 1.
