Nintendo sells 440k 3DS Units.

Nintendo announces big numbers for the 3DS during it's first week.

The library may not be solid, but the Nintendo 3DS has sold over 440,000 units of it's newest handheld the Nintendo 3DS. The number is not as big as other people think but it can only go uphill from here but whether the 3DS becomes a success or a flop like Nintendo's last 3D consoles is up to the consumer.

“We had a great start to the Nintendo 3DS, and portables overall had their best March in history,” Fils-Aime said today in a phone interview.

The 3DS currently retails for $250 which is a bit steep for consumers not to mention most of the features such as it's video player have been locked. A price drop may not show up until next year but hopefully by then Nintendo will have release an update that will allow the 3DS to become a multimedia beast. Netflix is stated to show up on the 3DS soon but as always an update is what we are all waiting for.

The game lineup is also something that played a mayor factor in the sales. There are a few great games out there but not that many great titles and no first party titles from Nintendo have shown up that are worth taking notice. Will the 3DS be as successful as the old DS only time will tell.
