Nintendo always seems to have planned it all out.
I was thinking about this the other day with a few co-workers and I asked myself why would the 3DS release on March with a price tag of $250. The price tag is reasonable and I told myself I will be buying one myself when the 3DS releases but that wouldn't have been my initial thought. I'm pretty sure some people already made the decision to buy it but for the rest of us one thing must have come to mind when Nintendo revealed the release date and price. Tax season.
During tax season you either receive or pay taxes but for many of us we will be receiving a refund check if we haven't already. When I realized I will be getting my tax check soon I told myself I would buy one but I really didn't think about it until I really started thinking about. It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to release the 3DS when people have money in their pockets which is really a great strategy on their part.
We will all have that money and we'll want to buy ourselves something nice and for those of us who already got our refund we already reserved the system if not we will eventually once we have the cash in out pockets.
The next PSP will release on November 2011 but what's better. Hoping that the consumer will have the cash ready or pay it with a credit card or knowing the consumer will have the cash on hand and will be looking to spend that cash. I'm sure the 3DS will sell great throughout the year but this is actually a smart move for Nintendo.
