PlaySega Gaming Website.

A review of Sega's Gaming website which offers full games as well as Genesis games.

If you are looking to play games anywhere there's a PC look no further than Sega's new website PlaySega.com. There are hundreds of games including Sega Genesis Games like Sonic 1,2,3, Toejam and Earl, Alex Kidd, Revenge of Shinobi, etc. There are also Free games which you can play and collect rings which can be used to win prices or purchase clothing for your avatar.
There are 2 levels of membership. Free membership which gives you access to only free games and if you are a new member you get a 5 day VIP membership which allows you to play all of the Sega Genesis games as well as create your own levels which you can play and share in the Sonic universe with other players. VIP is a paid membership which allows you to play unlimited Sega Genesis games for a period of several months depending on the type of membership you purchase.

A one month membership will run you are $6, 3 Month Membership costs $15, 6 Month membership cost $25 and 1 year membership cost $35. When you sign up for any membership above 3 months you do get a free PlaySega Joypad which resembles the Later Sega Genesis/ Saturn Joypad. For the 3 and 6 month membership you do have to pay a $5 shipping fee but for the 1 year membership shipping is free. The USB controller can run you $14 + shipping so in my opinion it's better if you pay for a membership and get it for Free. The best deal is the year membership for $35. For the 3 month membership you are paying $20 and for the 6 month membership you are paying $30 with the controller with shipping. For an extra $5 or $15 you are getting the year membership which gives you 1 year of gameplay.

What's great about the service is you can play it anywhere there's a computer with Java. You can play it at work, at your mom's, girlfriends, boyfriends, grandparents, school, practically anywhere.  You can play using the PlaySega joypad or the keyboard (as of writing this review I have not tested the PlaySega website with a different controller as I do not own any). I sometimes log in at work during my lunch break, it's very convenient when you are not doing anything but make sure you get permission first.

The level editor is not groundbreaking and can be difficult to figure out if you a new user. You are given a grid and you must place level chunks into them and form a pattern. Some people may like it but I try to stay away from it as much as possible.

The price give aways at the time of this writing are disabled and it is unknown when they might return. The last drawing was on Feb 2010. What also confuses me is when this website was launched as it has the words Beta on it. There are also downloadable games which you can download to any PC but it appears that they are trial games that other websites offer.

The website does need some work in terms of layout as there seems to be too much going on with the website. But what makes this website better than others is the lack of ads and virus but at the same time you have to pay a premium but when you get a free USB controller it's not such a bad deal. The screen also plays at a standard resolution and you cannot make it full screen which kind of sucks because if you have a certain screen with a certain resolution it will get blocked out by a few pixels.

The PlaySega website is definitely a great deal if you manage to get your hands of the PlaySega joypad because it is a limited time offer. You can do a lot on the website as well as unlock achievements. It is very convenient when you can play anywhere where there is a computer available. You just log in, select  a games and play. It's that simple. You can also sign up for a free 5 day trial if you wish to try before you buy. It's a great deal if you sign up now to get the Free PlaySega joypad and I recommend this service if you wish to play the classics anywhere. You can even while you're in sitting in class instead of listening to the instructor.
