One of the most influential man on the planet wants to cash in on Call of Duty fame with MMO.
If there's on thing Activions and Bobby both love is money. How can they get money? From the fans who pay for it. How do they get their money? By milking every series they have and firing employees the next day.
Bobby Kotick has expressed interest in a CoD MMO and that interest is now a reality.
"I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow," Kotick told The Wall Street Journal. "When you think about what the audience's interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience."
"I think our audiences are clamouring for it," he explained. "If you look at what they're playing on Xbox Live today, we've had 1.7bn hours of multiplayer play on Live. I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers."
“Over the next few months, you'll be hearing more about our plans to expand the franchise globally.”
Of course based on how they make their new CoD game it will either make or brake the company (Not literally). If you have an MMO where you do more than just shoot opponents like what we have now for Modern Warfare 1 and 2 then players would probably not pay for it but if you have something like WoW then you might be able to make it.
However pricing and gameplay are also important and with Koticks 9 month dev cycle turn around the gameplay might have to suffer a little but because they have WoW, Activision will definitely get a head start compared to other MMO's
I wonder how long players will continue to shell out cash for something they play over and over again without much creativity going into it. Some of their franchises really aren't selling as much so I'm wondering how long will Activision's business model will last.
