Halo effect is reason for Xbox 360 beign as successful.

According to Microsoft and it is probably true, Halo is the single most important franchise for the company and it is the reason many people own Xbox 360's compared to the other console, meaning the PS3 cause of course Wii doesn't count.

Since the launch of Halo on Xbox the series has generated over 2 billion in sales but not included are Xbox consoles, Online paid subscriptions which the game may have helped sell. Microsoft is hoping for the new game Halo Reach to surpass sales of the biggest game of the franchise so far which is Halo 3.

"Halo's value to Microsoft, which had $16 billion in revenue during the quarter ended June 30, is bigger than its numbers suggest. The Xbox is Microsoft's attempt to stake out a spot in the living room—and Halo is only available on Xbox. "It's the reason people own Xbox 360s instead of PlayStation 3's," says Wedbush's Pachter. Says Bonnie Ross, general manager for Microsoft's Halo business: "Halo is the most important entertainment franchise Microsoft has."

This is the last game being created by Bungie and after that Microsoft will be handling the franchise as Bungie is moving on to other things on other consoles. Halo has come along way from it's beginnings on Xbox to the mediocre story of Halo 3 and the even more mediocre Halo ODST and Halo Wars. While I'm not denying the fact that it may be true that Halo helped Microsoft I will say that the Halo story has somewhat disappointed me and chances are I will not be checking out this game. Maybe when it's on sale for $30 but the Halo franchise is one of the franchises I hope to see go away.
